1 What is Equine Therapy for Cancer

Cancer is a life-changing event, not only for the patients themselves but for their loved ones as well. Equine-assisted therapy can help patients, survivors, and their families process their grief, fears, and trauma. The horse is there to comfort and to act as a co-counselor for more successful healing.

What Equine Cancer Therapy Offers:

  • Revealing of emotions that may be deeply buried
  • A rebuilding of self-confidence that grows across all areas of life
  • Building a relationship with the horse, which can transfer onto human relationships
  • A catalyst for opening up and talking where that may be hard otherwise
  • A loving, compassionate, nonjudgmental space
  • True and lasting healing with a licensed therapist

1 How it Works

An equine-assisted therapy session can vary greatly from person to person. If you are more comfortable sitting or standing for long periods is not possible, then you will be seated in a chair with the horse close by. Grooming, feeding and leading the horse can be an option as well.

2 What to Expect

As with any therapy, you should expect to feel some vulnerability, which can feel strange at first. Unlike other therapies, you may also get a little dusty. Just know that this is a safe and therapeutic environment with both the horses and Bianca here to make you comfortable.
